SBBR BCR 2016 poster letter

Excerpts from the 2015 Standard Insurance SBBR and BCR

The Subic Bay to Boracay Race (SBBR) is an annual sailing event held in close sequence with the Boracay Cup Regatta (BCR), with the SBBR’s 200+ nm boasting of coastal sailing that feels more like off-shore racing due to the unpredictable conditions that have, time-and-time-again, provided an intense and very enjoyable experience for competitors.

Once in Boracay, sailors take the next couple of days to rest, recuperate, and conduct maintenance on their sailboats before resuming the next 4 days of racing in the BCR, where wind conditions are guaranteed to provide usually intense and sometimes, in some past years, very hairy racing.

“Congratulations to all who made this event such a wonderful one and in such fantastic sailing conditions too. Venue wise,  I have heard that it is one of the best in the world. Thanks, especially to Chairmen Ricky and Jun, you and the very hardworking race management teams who led the way.
The photos, videos and reports attest to the success and beauty of this event. New comers to this event are awe-struck!
The jury did not have any official hearings, but there were close calls. At one start, Antipodes came close to  making contact with Centennial III,  from behind and leeward. Centennial III was forced to shoot across the start line just before the signal, incurring an OCS penalty and time lost recrossing the start line again . Could they have also won the Boracay Cup too if this did not happen? Could they have sailed their course and made a good start? Did Antipodes have right of way, having just established overlap from behind? All’s well at the end, more joys for more people.”
– Mr. Tan Swee Hung, ISAF Jury Officer

The SBBR has been graciously and consistently sponsored by Mr. Judes Echaus’ Standard Insurance, and has aptly come to be known as The Standard Insurance Subic Bay to Boracay Race. As a matter of pride, 2015’s Overall Champions for the SBBR and BCR are none other than the PSA’s Centenial III, Mr. Echaus’ own entry for both races.

“Thanks once again for a fantastic event, probably now my favourite on the annual circuit! Your kind hospitality is greatly appreciated.”
– Chris Howarth, Fragrant Harbour

With a steadily growing attendance of teams and sailors from all over the world, these two back-to-back international events are now considered as one awesome, multi-day event that is a part of Capt. Marty Rijkuris Asian Yachting Grand Prix Circuit , and hands-down one of the best and most fun regattas in Asia.
