Sailing is more than just a sport—it’s a way to explore, connect with nature, and experience the thrill of the open seas. And where better to start than Subic Bay? Known for its ideal sailing conditions and passionate sailing community, Subic is home to the renowned Subic Sailing Team, led by skipper Jun Avecilla and brothers Zed and Marcus. This powerhouse crew has emerged in numerous races around the Philippines aboard their 36.7 footer Beneteau First sailboat named Selma Star.

Why Sailing is the Perfect Sport for every Filipino

Did you know that sailing dates back over 5,000 years? Ancient Filipinos were expert seafarers, using wind-powered boats called balangays to explore and trade across Southeast Asia. So in essence, we are natural born sailors, aka children of the sea.

Today, with 7,641 islands to navigate, sailing is the perfect way to rediscover our maritime roots as Filipinos. Whether you’re racing, cruising, or simply enjoying a day on the water, sailing allows you to experience the Philippines (or beyond!) in a whole new way.

Sailing for Fun and Exploration

Sailing isn’t just an exciting adventure; it’s also an incredible way to explore hidden gems across the country - while staying fit! From secret coves to remote islands, sailing gives you access to places most people can only dream of visiting.

And the best part? You can do it all while harnessing the power of the wind—making it an eco-friendly way to travel. Events like the BPI Signature Yacht Race Series showcase the beauty of sailing while inspiring more people to take on the challenge. With grit and experience, Selma Star has conquered the 138 mile Punta Fuego-Busuanga Cup five times, emerged overall winner at the recent BPI Corregidor Cup, and clinched victory in last year’s Subic to Boracay 200 race. Just to name a few.

Start Young, Sail Forever

Think sailing is just for adults? Think again! Kids as young as 8 can start learning the ropes at the Little Sailor Sailing Class of Subic Sailing Club —literally. Subic’s sailing schools offer beginner-friendly programs that teach young sailors confidence, teamwork, and environmental responsibility for only Php 5,000 for 10 sessions for kids while rates start at Php 30,000+ for the Sailing Clinic for adults. It's never too early to develop a love for the sea!

So, whether you’re looking for a thrilling challenge or a relaxing escape, sailing in Subic Bay has something for everyone. Hoist your sails, embrace the adventure, and discover the magic of sailing today!
